Hazelnuts
Delicious and extremely good for you, Hazelnuts are packed with protein, essential vitamins and minerals (including phosphorus and potassium.) Unless you are part of the 2% of the population with a nut allergy, they are an essential part of a healthy diet.
Hazelnuts are high in fibre, are a great source of energy, nutritionally dense, packed with micro-nutrients and rich in Vitamin A, E and B12. Many health professionals endorse the benefits of a regular intake of nuts.
Store nuts in a cool dry place, in a sealed container out of direct light. They will keep up to 4 months once out of their shell, alternatively they will keep up to one year in a freezer.
The NutHouse Hazelnuts are all grown in Waiau, North Canterbury under optimum conditions.
Raw Nuts : Slightly sweet taste and creamy texture. They are very nutritious when eaten raw, obtaining all the extra food value in the skin.
Roasting Hazelnuts : Roasting the hazelnut is ideal to get a more smoky, robust flavour, and make for pleasant eating with the skin removed.
To Roast : Spread the nuts into a shallow baking pan and roast in a hot oven for approx 8 minuites or until the nut turns a light golden colour and the skins begin to separate. To remove skins, rub gently.
For a more subtle flavour : Blanch hazelnuts by heating in oven @ 150C for about 10 minutes only until skins separate from the Nuts.
